NEW Training + NEW License + Group!

This past week was an amazing week and I cannot wait to tell you why. I have to say, one of my favorite things about being a Therapist is that I get to live life with you and that makes me SOOO happy! One of the best parts of my job is the healing that occurs through the human relationship that exists between my clients and I. One of the things about brokenness is that it can be healed through safe and supportive human connection, even if the brokenness occurred from unsafe human connection. Isn't that cool? The human bond is SO SO powerful.

So, let’s get started, because I can hardly wait!

NEW Training!

I went to a training on Friday that I was excited about before I went, but afterwards just totally re-ignited my love for EMDR. I am sure you have heard me talk about EMDR and how much I love it, but this training took my love for it to another level.

As many of you know, I specialize in working with very heavy topics such as traumatic events (difficult childhood, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and any experiences that threatened personal safety or a threat to one's life), as well as Sexual Abuse. When a client comes in and has experienced one of these events, it can be really difficult to talk about and I never force them to talk about it because it can bring them back to the moment(s) of the difficult event. EMDR is great in that it doesn’t force the individual to talk about what happened, but rather helps their brain process the event in a safe and controlled way.

Onto the training. This training though took everything I just explained a step further and allows for individuals to not have to discuss at all what is going through their brain during the processing, but instead, they get to draw what they are noticing in their body and what they are feeling. This is SOOO cool, because it integrates a child side of us that allows us to draw/color/and express ourself in a non-threatening way.  It can sometimes be difficult to put into words what we are feeling/experiencing in our body, and therefore, this way of processing makes it so that using words is not necessary. This form of EMDR has been around for 20 years and is actually used often in situations such as natural disasters or events that affect a mass number of individuals. In these situations, it has been used in group settings, often with hundreds of people at a time! Why is this exciting? Because when natural disasters hit, there are limited resources and it allows a mass amount of people to process the difficult emotions or flash backs that they may be experiencing.

In addition to being used in these situations this therapy can be used with individuals either in addition to the group work, or just in individuals sessions! I would love to take this work internationally as well as be a part of working with individuals effected by natural disasters, but I also get to use it in session with my clients here! Have I mentioned how excited I am about this, yet?! :)

To give you a glimpse of what this therapy looks like, I included a picture that I drew during the training. This drawing goes to show you that you do not have to be artistic and literally allows you to draw what you need. Mine are very simple, because I am not artistic, but they can be very detailed as well, if you are more of an artist.

I could literally go on and on about this training. It is AMAZING and if you want to talk to me more about it, I would gladly do so!

NEW License!

The other exciting thing that happened this week was….. I GOT MY LICENSE! I am now a Licensed Professional Counselor. This is something I have been working towards since the beginning of my college career, 10 years ago.

I want to take a moment to THANK YOU!!! I could not have done this without you and I have loved every moment of these last two years living life with you. And guess what!? The healing that you are seeking only gets better from here!! I am so grateful for everything that you have taught me on my journey to my license and I look forward to what I get to continue to learn throughout the rest of my career and my excitement for what I get to do for a living does not stop here. I am so excited for the future!

Group!

P.S. The 4-Week Loved Ones group starts THIS Thursday, January 25th and we have a few spaces left if you are on the fence about joining, you should join!! It is going to be amazing and I am going to be integrating what I learned in the training as well!

If you did the group in August, this will expand on that group and will provide more in depth information, as was requested by the members!
