“Until you are broken, you don’t know what you’re made of. Being broken gives you the ability to build yourself all over again, but this time around build yourself stronger than ever. Therefore you will be unbreakable.” – Melissa Molomo
Frequently Asked Questions about CounselingWhat if I don't know what I need?
That is okay! We will figure it out together. Sometimes life can feel so jumbled and it can be helpful to have someone outside of your family and friends to sort through it all.
What does a session typically look like?
Typically, during the first session, we work together to determine where you are at in the moment and what you need. I do not have an agenda for your counseling sessions. This is your journey and I want you to be an active part in determining what that looks like! The first few sessions are just about me getting to know you and you getting to know me - to determine if I am a good fit for YOU. This process is yours and it is important that you feel like I am a good fit and that you feel comfortable and safe. Safety is a huge aspect that I value during our relationship and something that I am always keeping at the forefront. You are sharing the most intimate details of your life, that you probably aren't sharing with just anyone, and I want you to know that is valued. I do what I can to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for you and make sure that this process is completely catered to you as an individual. It is important to me that I meet you where you are at in that moment.
How long is a typical session?
I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation.
Individual sessions are 50 minutes and Couples and family sessions are 60 minutes. How long will this process take?
Sessions typically happen once a week for 6-12 weeks, depending on what you are needing as an individual. Sessions can occur longer than this, or shorter. Therapy is truly an individual process and does not look the same for every single person. As you start to feel more confident with your ability to apply skills obtained in therapy into your everyday life, sessions take place less often and usually go to every other week or less than that, as a follow-up. Frequency can be discussed and catered to your individual needs.
What if I have never done therapy before?
Counseling can be a scary and daunting experience that is often avoided by many. If you are feeling nervous, anxious, or scared about starting this process, you are not alone. Almost everyone feels that way about something they have never done before, especially when it comes to dealing with difficult things in your life. Let yourself feel those emotions and we will work together to help you gain comfort and safety in the therapy process.
Is therapy worth my time?
What does better and happy even look like? It may feel distant, unattainable, and too long of a journey. One that feels so daunting you wonder if it is even worth your time and energy. You question if you have the strength to face the pain. The pain that you try to ignore and push down so far, hoping it will just go away, but it just keeps coming back. Overwhelmed, you find yourself feeling liks you could explode, its just too much.
You desperately seek relief from the pain that clings to you like a magnet. The pain that haunts you all day, unable to escape its grasp. Sleep feels like the best way to escape, to feel peace, yet the nightmares that come sometimes feel worse. The memories play over and over like a song stuck on repeat. They are a constant reminder of the horror you wish you could forget. I can help you put the pieces of your life back together, to feel happy again. I provide a safe environment to face the events of your past and move on to a happier and more fulfilled you. Help you find your inner strength and develop who you want to be for your future! What is the purpose of each session?
Every session is aimed to meet your needs. I believe that counseling is a collaborative process between the therapist and client and a journey which can bring remarkable changes for you as the client. Counseling is not an easy process and I understand that there can be hesitation to pursue the start of your healing journey. I strive to validate and encourage your experiences, as they are valuable and important.
When you come in each week, we will check in and see where you are at in that moment. It may be different from where you were in our last session and I want you to know that I am not only going to focus on the past, but also what is going on with you in the present. I help you establish tools that you can use when you leave my office to help you manage the difficult feelings that you are experiencing. What is your favorite therapy?
A helpful therapy that can be an option to you is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). A few reasons why I love EMDR are: 1. It is a therapy that reaches many different issues that you may be experiencing. Common issues include: anxiety, panic attacks, sexual/physical abuse, phobias, disturbing memories, emotional distress, grief, and anxiety or fear around future events. 2. I also love EMDR because in some cases it is found to be much more effective in the healing process when compared to talk therapy. Do you take insurance?
I am considered an out of network provider. You can call your insurance company to see if they will reimburse for out of network providers. If so, I can provide you with a "superbill" for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
