SEXUAL TRAUMA

If you are in a place where you feel like no one understands the Sexual Trauma that you experienced, you are not alone. Many who have experienced Sexual Trauma feel the same way, and this is due to the fact that our society doesn't know what to do with this subject. Our society is not educated on how to support a Survivor. Because of this, often times even our family members don't know what to do, and this can leave us feeling completely alone. This pain is too much to handle alone. It can feel like it is completely taking you over and therefore you feel trapped in your own body.
Do you experience any of these?
  • You don't feel safe in your own body, because it is a constant reminder of what you experienced.
  • You can't trust anyone, because they may just try and hurt you.
  • You feel terrible about yourself and struggle to find any sort of love towards yourself
  • You have shame about what happened and sometimes question if it was your fault.
  • The memories of the Abuse flash through your head and bring you down.
  • You do not feel supported by your friends or family
  • The pain you feel is so intense, you wonder if it will ever go away.
  • You fear for your safety and are always aware of your surroundings.
  • You experienced Sexual Abuse and are confused. Maybe you feel like its your fault, and you just don't know where to go next.

Can Therapy Help Me?

Thinking about talking about the abuse that you experienced can be overwhelming and make you want to shut down. Absolutely. Therapy for Sexual Trauma is unlike talk therapy. When you think of Therapy, this is probably what you think of. Sitting on a couch and sharing every detail of what happened. I will assure you that this is not what your therapy process would look like for the Sexual Trauma that you encountered. If talking about it is helpful for you, you can cater the process to include that, but for many, they avoid therapy, because they don't want to re-live every memory by sharing it. There are therapies specifically created for Sexual Trauma. One of them is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).  EMDR allows your brain to process the information, without you sharing every detail. Also, in the way that our brain works, in processing one memory, another memory may be processed with it. This makes the process a little less painful for you and allows you to find the peace that you are looking for. If you have any questions about this process, please contact me. I am happy to answer any questions that you may have and understand that pursuing this process can be SO scary. I am here to make the process less intimidating and scary for you.
