I had the opportunity to take a training over the weekend that I felt would be especially beneficial during this time. I am excited about it and for those of you that know what EMDR is, it is a similar therapy. This therapy is geared specifically to do online through video session methods. For those that are experiencing a lot of anxiety around everything happening in our society currently, this is the perfect therapy method. It is geared to work with fresh experiences and ones that leave a lasting impact on our day to day functioning.
This is an intensive therapy that is meant to do back to back days or even multiple sessions within one day. For those wondering how many sessions it might take - it is an individual process, but I would say anywhere from 3-5 sessions will be enough. This therapy also requires self-care and implements it through requiring that you allow yourself to eat, drink and sleep to be the most effective. It may not be the Coronavirus that is leaving this lasting impact, but rather another experience that you have had recently that brings about similar effects for you. This would also be a great therapy for you. So what is this therapy?

I am sure your inbox has been filled with emails covering the Coronavirus. This is the topic of conversation in many venues and has definitely been processed in session this past week. This has brought up fear and mass panic within our society and can feel mind-boggling at times. With many aren't sure what the next few days and weeks will bring, the unknown can be the scariest to cope with.
These situations can also trigger past trauma and times in which we didn't feel safe. The instinctual fight/flight/freeze response kicks in and leaves us hyper-aware and unable to think about anything else. For some, it can be helpful to give yourself permission to step away and take a break from being fully immersed in the moment to moment updates. In these situations, which bring up such a response, it is often helpful to check back in to the moment and allow yourself to notice what you need. I also want to remind you that you are not alone in this. These situations can feel isolating and lonely if we think that we are alone in how we feel. Everyone may share different views and beliefs, but we are all trying to navigate this together and it is unknown for us all. Most everyone has been impacted by this in some way and we are all handling it in differently. I cannot say enough just how much we all need each other and are not meant to do this life alone. Don't be afraid to lean on those around you. |
